Morpho’s Revenue Trails Aave Despite $170M in Borrower Interest
Morpho, a decentralized lending protocol, has generated an estimated $17 million in annual revenue from $170 million in borrower interest payments over the past year. The platform’s valuation, however, stands at $1.7 billion—roughly 100 times its current earnings. This stark multiple raises questions about investor expectations for growth in decentralized finance, particularly for newer protocols.
By contrast, Aave, a more established rival, has produced $140 million in revenue against a $1.5 billion valuation. The disparity underscores a broader trend in DeFi: early-stage projects often command premium valuations based on future potential rather than present performance. Morpho’s trajectory suggests that while activity in decentralized lending is expanding, revenue capture remains uneven across the sector.
